Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare

  • Calculate the Total Volume - Roughly calculate the total volume of silicone your project will need.
  • Prepare the Mold Container - Ensure the mold is clean and free from any dust, debris, or previous residues. If necessary, apply a suitable mold release agent.
  • Secure Your Project - Place the item you are molding securely in the mold container.

Step 2: Mix

  • Measure Parts A & B - Combine equal parts of Part A and Part B by volume. Use precise measuring cups for accuracy.
  • Mix Thoroughly - Pour both parts into a clean mixing container. Mix thoroughly but slowly for 3-5 minutes, avoiding the formation of air bubbles. Ensure you scrape the sides and bottom of the container to achieve a uniform blend.

Step 3: Pour

  • Pour the Mixture - Slowly pour the mixed silicone into the mold container, starting at the lowest point. Pouring in a thin stream can help minimize air entrapment.
  • Release Air Bubbles - Gently tap the sides of the mold or use a vibrating table to help release any trapped air bubbles.

Step 4: Cure

  • Let it Cure - Allow the silicone to cure at room temperature for 5 hours. For best results, let it set for 24 hours.
  • Optional Fast Curing - You can apply gentle heat, such as placing the mold in an oven set to a maximum of 40°C (104°F), to speed up the curing process. Do not exceed this temperature to avoid compromising the silicone's properties.

Step 5: Demold

  • Remove the Silicone Mold - After the curing time has elapsed, gently flex or peel the mold to release the cured silicone. Avoid using sharp tools that may damage the mold or the finished piece.
  • Ready to Use - Your silicone mold is now ready for use with epoxy resin, culinary applications, or other projects.

Tips and Safety:

  • Always work in a well-ventilated area and wear protective gloves to avoid skin contact.
  • Store unmixed Part A and Part B in a cool, dry place with tightly closed lids to extend shelf life.
  • Dispose of any unused material and contaminated tools in accordance with local regulations.

Preventing Cure Inhibition:

Cure inhibition occurs when the silicone does not fully cure, resulting in tackiness or gummy spots. To avoid this:

  • Ensure accurate 1:1 mixing ratio by volume or weight.
  • Thoroughly mix Parts A and B, scraping the sides and bottom of the container.
  • Avoid contact with tin-cure silicone, certain clays, sulfur, and some 3D printing materials.

How to Test for Cure Inhibition:

  • Mix a small amount of Part A and Part B.
  • Apply a drop of the mixture to the material you plan to mold.
  • Wait for at least 6 hours and check for any sticky or uncured spots.
